Physical (or spatial) integration describes efforts to locate the various parts of a transport system in proximity to each other. Examples include placing parking for shared mobility vehicles in direct proximity to a public transit spot. Also visual features, like signs or visually indicated zones on the ground can increase physical integration.

Possible indicators:

  • Distance between the available modes
  • Visual features connecting different modes
  • Information about available modes at locations
  • Number of transfers

Levels:

  • Level 0: No integration
  • Level 1: Modes in vicinity of each other
  • Level 2: Modes are accessible to all
  • Level 3: Modes together in one clearly visible area with information and common logos
  • Level 4: Integration of hub in urban fabric – Hub as a placemaker (e.g. other functions such as shopping, services, recreation ..)
